Philippines logs 18,659 new COVID-19 cases

The Philippines reported 18,659 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, September 24, bringing the total to over 2.45 million.

There were no reported deaths due to technical issues, while recoveries increased by 9,088 to reach 2.24 million.

Active cases stood at 175,324 with most being mild (88.1%), followed by asymptomatic (6.9%), severe (1.5%), moderate (2.84%), and critical (0.7%) cases.

The Department of Health noted a 'rapid and large decline' in laboratory outputs for coronavirus results, leading to a decrease in infections nationally and in the National Capital Region.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire stated that they are assessing whether the drop in cases is real or due to other factors.
