PRC targets 12K daily coronavirus tests in Metro Manila

Philippine Red Cross Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon announced Wednesday that the humanitarian agency has three testing laboratories in Metro Manila capable of conducting up to 12,000 coronavirus tests daily.

Each laboratory is equipped with four polymerase chain reaction machines, each capable of processing 1,000 tests per day.

Gordon also stated Monday that around 20 testing labs will be opened nationwide for COVID-19 detection, with a second lab at PRC's national headquarters in Mandaluyong expected to open within the week and process up to 4,000 tests daily.

The first laboratory recently opened by PRC has already processed 1,000 test samples from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
