Filipino Olympians receive honors from Congress, local officials

Filipino gymnasts Aleah Finnegan and Emma Malabuyo visited the House of Representatives on Wednesday to receive resolutions honoring their participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

House Committee on Youth and Sports Development Chairperson Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III led the second Congressional Reception for the Philippine Olympic Delegation, which also featured other Filipino Olympians including two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo, bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas.

Golfer Dottie Ardina received a certificate of recognition from the Senate on Tuesday and was feted by Makati City Mayor Abby Binay for inspiring up-and-coming golfers.

Olympic boxers Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam were warmly welcomed in their respective hometowns of Davao and Cagayan de Oro City.

Carlos Yulo received a total of P14.510 million from the House of Representatives for his achievements, while Petecio and Villegas each received P4 million in cash incentives, with each of the remaining 19 Olympic athletes receiving P1 million.
