Philippine lawmakers condemn China's aggressive WPS actions

Philippine lawmakers, including senators and the speaker, condemned China's aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea following recent collisions between Chinese coast guard vessels and Filipino ships during a resupply mission.

Senator Mary-Grace Poe-Llamanzares warned that such incidents could heighten tensions and become regional flashpoints, while Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito urged for the modernization of defense agencies to protect maritime interests.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri called for adherence to international law and respect for freedom of navigation under UNCLOS, praising the Philippine Coast Guard and Armed Forces for their restraint in continuing resupply missions despite threats.

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines also criticized these incidents as violations of national sovereignty and threats to food security and livelihoods.
