Petecio promoted to Petty Officer First Class after Olympic bronze

Olympic boxer Nesthy Petecio, a non-commissioned personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), will be promoted to Petty Officer First Class upon her return after winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Petecio currently holds the rank of Petty Officer Second Class in the PCG and secured a bronze medal in the women's 57-kilogram division, despite not advancing to the finals.

Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan praised Petecio's achievement as an inspiration for young people during an interview at a ceremony in Manila on Thursday.

The Coast Guard Special Service Office congratulated Petecio for her feat and President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos also extended their congratulations through social media.

Senate Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada filed a resolution to confer the Senate medal of excellence on Petecio for her outstanding achievements, following her silver medal win in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
