PBA announces 10 new '50 Greatest Players'

On Wednesday, April 2nd, the PBA unveiled ten new members to its '50 Greatest Players' list ahead of the league's upcoming 50th anniversary celebration on April 9th.

Leading the additions are June Mar Fajardo and Scottie Thompson, who were automatically included due to their MVP awards; Abe King, Nelson Asaytono, Jeffrey Cariaso, Bong Hawkins, Arnie Tuadles, Danny Seigle, Manuel Victorino, and Yoyoy Villamin also joined the list.

The selection committee, led by Sonny Barrios with former MVPs Allan Caidic, Atoy Co, Ramon Fernandez, Dante Silverio, Quinito Henson, Andy Jao, Al Mendoza, Ding Marcelo, Nelson Beltran, and Co, deliberated for three weeks before making their final decision.

Fajardo and Thompson were the youngest among the 10 new additions to the elite list, getting outright recognition by virtue of their MVP awards despite some arguing that they are still actively playing.

Committee chairman Sonny Barrios emphasized that Asaytono's unanimous selection by eight out of nine committee members underscores his deserving status among the league's elite.
