House solons back Velasco's economic charter change

Leaders of various political parties and blocs at the House of Representatives signed a manifesto on Thursday backing Speaker Lord Allan Velasco’s proposal to amend restrictive economic provisions in the 1987 Constitution.

The leaders stated there is a unified consensus that the House will deliberate only on RBH No. 2, which aims to mitigate the devastating economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic and safeguard the nation from future crises.

During a hybrid meeting called by Velasco on Tuesday, party leaders generally agreed to support his initiative towards liberalizing the Constitution’s economic provisions while not touching political provisions.
