PCCI urges Congress to pass pending bills instead of cha-cha

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) urged Congress on Monday to prioritize passing pending economic bills instead of pursuing constitutional changes.

PCCI president Benedicto Yujuico warned that inserting 'unless otherwise provided by law' into the Constitution could weaken it, making it easier for ordinary legislation to amend the charter.

Yujuico emphasized that there are existing bills like the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) Act, the Government Financial Institutions Unified Initiatives to Distressed Enterprises for Economic Recovery (GUIDE) Act, and the Public Service Act that can push for economic liberalization without amending the Constitution.
