PAOCC monitors illegal POGOs in Metro Manila, Cavite
The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) is monitoring areas in southern Metro Manila and Cavite for illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) activities following raids at POGO hubs in Porac, Pampanga, and Bamban, Tarlac.
PAOCC spokesperson Winston John Casio said workers who fled the raid are reportedly now in Metro Manila areas like Muntinlupa, Makati, Pasay, and Parañaque due to their proximity to airports and hotels.
PAOCC Undersecretary Gilbert Cruz revealed that there are around 300 illegal POGOs operating in the country, many of which had previously obtained licenses but chose not to renew them due to violations.
The PAOCC official noted that local government units where POGOs were found to be involved in illegal activities are being investigated by the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. described criminal syndicates posing as POGO hubs as a 'national security concern', emphasizing their weakening effect on financial standing, country ratings, and societal corruption.
