Paalam loses Olympic quarterfinal to Australia's Senior

Carlo Paalam's campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games ended after he lost his quarterfinal match against Australia's Charlie Senior by a split decision of 3-2, leaving him disappointed and frustrated.

Paalam, who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, felt he did enough to win despite early struggles and aggressive exchanges in the final rounds, stating that his punches were clearer and more effective than those of Senior.

The 26-year-old fighter expressed disappointment over the score, believing he landed cleaner punches during their furious exchanges, saying 'I was leading. I'm sorry to everyone.'

Paalam had previously advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Ireland's Jude Gallagher with a unanimous decision win and is now alongside fellow eliminated boxers Eumir Marcial and Hergie Bacyadan.

Two more Filipino boxers, Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, remain in contention for medals, with Petecio already assured of at least a bronze after her quarterfinal victory on Sunday (Manila time).
