Philippines Reports Over 3,000 New COVID-19 Cases for Third Consecutive Day

On Monday, March 8, the DOH reported 3,356 new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, bringing the total to 597,763.

The number of recoveries increased by 61 to reach 545,912, while five additional deaths were recorded, raising the death toll to 12,521.

Active cases stood at 39,330 or 6.6% of all cases with mild symptoms accounting for 91.2%, asymptomatic cases at 4%, critical cases at 2%, severe cases at 2%, and moderate cases at 0.83%.

Health Undersecretary Ma. Rosario Vergeire attributed the spike in new cases to lapses in compliance with safety protocols and the emergence of new variants.

For three consecutive days, more than 3,000 new cases were reported, with Friday's tally being the highest since October 16, 2020.
