Obiena 8th at Mondo Classic, eyes outdoor season

Filipino Olympic pole vaulter EJ Obiena concluded his indoor season by placing eighth at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, Sweden.

Obiena, ranked World No.4, cleared heights of 5.50 and 5.65 meters but failed to clear 5.80 meters despite three attempts, highlighting his inconsistency this season.

World record holder Armand Duplantis won the tournament with a height of 6.05 meters, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis placed second at 6.00 meters and Sam Kendricks from the USA finished third with 5.90 meters.

Earlier this month, Obiena announced his withdrawal from the World Indoor Championships due to missing qualifying tournaments and a back injury earlier in the year.

With the indoor season now over, Obiena will focus on the upcoming outdoor events including the World Athletics Championships, Asian Athletics Championships, and Southeast Asian Games.
