NPC to probe GCash unauthorized transactions

On November 11, 2024, GCash reported to the National Privacy Commission (NPC) that there was no data leakage or personal data breach in the incident involving unauthorized transactions.

Despite GCash's assurance, the NPC announced on Wednesday that it will conduct an independent investigation as required by the Data Privacy Act of 2012 to verify the absence of a data breach and ensure transparency and accountability.

Individuals affected by the incident are encouraged to reach out to the NPC at info@privacy.gov.ph for any necessary details needed for the investigation.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) also announced on Monday that it will investigate potential vulnerabilities in GCash's system after reports of unauthorized deductions from user accounts.

GCash stated on Sunday that the system issues causing the incident have been resolved, and customer account security remains a top priority for the company.
