Up to 78% of workers can return under MECQ starting May 16

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez stated that up to 78 percent of employees can return to work under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting May 16.

Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City are listed under MECQ, allowing partial reopening of some sectors while maintaining ECQ measures.

Lopez also mentioned that non-essential businesses will be allowed to open gradually under MECQ but must adhere to strict health protocols including testing for employees with symptoms or illness, physical distancing, regular disinfection, and provision of personal protective equipment.

Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda welcomed the easing of restrictions but noted the challenge of workforce mobility due to lack of public transport.
