NLEX waives tolls during Marilao Bridge repair

The NLEX Corporation announced on Saturday that it would temporarily waive toll fees from Balintawak to Meycauayan northbound on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) starting Sunday, June 22, at 1 a.m., while the Marilao Bridge was being repaired.

This decision follows another road crash on Wednesday, June 19, when an overheight container truck struck the bridge again, causing severe damage and resulting in one death and six injuries.

Major structural repairs on the Marilao Bridge were completed as of midnight Monday, allowing all four lanes to reopen for motorists.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon directed NLEX Corp. to suspend toll collection after the fatal accident, and the truck driver is now under custody facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries, as well as damage to property.

Just last month, an over-height truck struck the Marilao Bridge, leading to weeks of repairs and temporary lane closures.
