Floods cause P45-M in agro-fishery losses in NegOcc

As of Thursday, the two massive floods that hit Negros Occidental on January 1 and 8 resulted in PHP45 million worth of damage to agriculture and fisheries.

The first flood caused PHP16.5 million in losses, while the second wave brought almost PHP28.5 million in damages, with rice farmers suffering the most significant impact at PHP15.28 million.

Affected were 919 rice farmers across six cities and towns, impacting 604 hectares of land.

On Wednesday, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported that more than PHP42 million worth of damage was incurred by farmers and fisherfolk due to floods on January 8.
