NCSC ready for bill raising centenarian gift to P1M

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) is prepared to implement a bill that would increase the cash gift for Filipino centenarians who reach 101 years old from PHP100,000 to PHP1 million.

Currently, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) handles the distribution of these gifts under Republic Act No. 10868, but if the bill becomes law, NCSC will take over this role.

NCSC Chairperson Franklin Quijano noted that there are currently more than 2,600 centenarians in the Philippines and around 1,538 who have reached 101 years old in 2023.

Quijano expressed hope for sufficient funding to support this measure, estimating a need of approximately PHP1.5 billion just for those turning 101 this year.
