NCR returns to GCQ Aug. 19; more public trans options

Commuters in the National Capital Region will have more public transportation options starting Wednesday, August 19, as NCR returns to general community quarantine.

MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia stated that this GCQ will differ from previous ones, particularly in terms of transportation availability and social distancing measures.

Garcia noted that during the earlier GCQ period, limited routes and public utility vehicles led commuters to ignore health protocols due to difficulties in securing rides.

The Metro Manila Council, which includes NCR mayors and MMDA officials, supports resuming public transport to aid residents' livelihoods but will defer the decision on whether to extend the modified enhanced community quarantine or shift to GCQ to the Inter-agency Task Force.
