NCR COVID-19 positivity rate peaks at 28.7%, slowing down

The positivity rate for COVID-19 in the National Capital Region (NCR) has continued to rise, reaching a peak of 28.7% on Sunday, according to OCTA Research.

Dr. Guido David from OCTA suggests that this increase may be slowing down due to decreased social and mass gatherings around New Year's Eve.

On January 1st, the positivity rate was at 21%, with projections estimating about 4,000 new cases nationwide on that day.

The trend began in late December when the positivity rate surpassed 5% for the first time since October, raising concerns over potential sustained increases beyond holiday-related spikes.
