NBI ordered to probe food price manipulation

The Justice department has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate possible manipulation of food prices, particularly pork and other basic supplies.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra authorized an investigation into activities that may have caused recent price spikes, with NBI Officer-in-Charge Eric B. Distor leading the probe.

The investigation will focus on violations of the Price Act and Revised Penal Code, specifically monopolies and combinations in restraint of trade.
