NBI arrests six foreigners for bank account hacking

On Friday, February 28, 2025, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced the arrest of six foreigners involved in accessing private bank accounts.

The arrests followed a search operation at a condominium in Malate, Manila on February 10, where operatives seized and examined computer data.

Earlier, on February 4, NBI agents arrested a Chinese individual and his Filipino interpreter in Makati City, leading to the discovery of a 'love scam' hub.

The foreigners were allegedly transferring funds from illegally accessed bank accounts to accounts under their control using information obtained from victims.

Presented for inquest proceedings before Manila prosecutors, the suspects face charges under Section 4(a)(1) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 for illegal access of computer systems.
