Man arrested for posing as NBI officer, swindling P10M

A 50-year-old man identified as 'Crisanto' from Bulacan was arrested for posing as an NBI intelligence officer and swindling a Chinese businessman out of P10 million on February 23.

Chen, a 38-year-old Chinese businessman from Makati City, met Crisanto at a seafood restaurant in Pasay City on February 20 where he was convinced to hand over the money after being promised help with the release of 20 detained Chinese nationals.

Crisanto was arrested by Pasay police in Tondo, Manila at 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 23 while driving a newly purchased red Ford Raptor vehicle.

The suspect is currently detained at the Pasay City Police Station and faces charges of swindling under Article 315 and usurpation of authority under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.

NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin emphasized that the public should remain vigilant and verify identities when dealing with individuals claiming government affiliation to prevent fraud.
