NAC receives 578 amnesty apps, mostly from CPP-NPA-NDF

As of July 12, 2024, the National Amnesty Commission (NAC) has received a total of 578 amnesty applications.

Of these applicants, 497 are former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army - National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), two belong to the Rebolusyonaryong Partidong Manggagawa ng Pilipinas / Revolutionary Proletarian Army / Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP-RPA-ABB), 33 are from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and 46 are from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. granted amnesty to former members of these rebel groups under Proclamation Nos. 403, 404, 405, and 406 issued on Nov. 23, 2023.

The NAC has established nine Local Amnesty Boards (LABs) and is setting up another 10 to facilitate the application process for amnesty seekers.

These LABs will verify the information provided by applicants and recommend successful cases to President Marcos for final approval.

The creation of more accessible LABs is expected to encourage more rebels to return to civilian life and restart a peaceful existence.
