300 former NPA rebels enroll in gov't amnesty program

As of Sunday, July 14, 300 former Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) rebels in Negros and Panay islands have enrolled in the government's amnesty program during the application period from July 5 to 12.

In Bacolod City, 210 applicants processed their papers at the Bacolod City College campus with assistance from the line battalions of the 302nd and 303rd Infantry Brigades.

Meanwhile, LAB-Iloilo received applications from 90 former rebels in Panay assisted by the 301st Infantry Brigade at Camp General Adriano Hernandez in Dingle town.

Maj. Gen. Marion Sison, commander of the Philippine Army's 3rd Infantry Division (ID), urged remaining CPP-NPA members to surrender and embrace peaceful lives.

The application period for the CPP-NPA-NDF amnesty program ends on July 12 under Proclamation No. 404 issued on March 13, 2024.
