MMDA suspends number coding, closes roads for Chinese New Year

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Monday that the expanded number coding scheme will be suspended on Wednesday, January 29, to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Traffic in Binondo tends to be heavy during celebrations due to Filipino-Chinese community traditions, prompting road closures and rerouting advisories from the Manila Police District-Public Information Office (MPD-PIO).

Starting at 9 p.m. on January 28, several roads including parts of Quintin Paredes Street and Jones Bridge will be inaccessible for vehicles until further notice.

Rerouting options have been provided to help drivers navigate around restricted areas during the festivities.

Drivers are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly to avoid traffic congestion in key celebration sites.
