Manila roads close for Chinese New Year starting Jan 28

Starting Tuesday night, January 28, several roads in Manila will be closed for the Chinese New Year celebration.

The Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) has advised that the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge and stretches of Quintin Paredes Street from Padres Burgos Avenue to Dasmariñas Street, as well as Northbound and Southbound lanes of Jones Bridge, Plaza Cervantes, and Jones Bridge itself will be closed starting 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes: those coming from Reina Regente Street should use Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz, Nortebro Ty, Yuchengco Street, and Ongpin Street instead of Jones Bridge, while vehicles heading towards Jones Bridge from P. Burgos Avenue/Taft Avenue can go straight through McArthur Bridge or Quezon Bridge.

Drivers coming from Dasmariñas Street via Plaza Sta. Cruz should turn right onto Quintin Paredes Street, and those going to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge from Magallanes Drive should use A. Soriano Avenue to Anda Circle.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and China Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian will lead Chinese New Year activities on Tuesday, including the lighting of the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arch at 10 p.m., followed by a program at Jones Bridge and a fireworks display and drone show at midnight.
