MMDA collects 6.1 tons of election trash in Metro Manila

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that a total of 6.1 tons or 6,100 kilograms of trash were collected in Metro Manila on Election Day.

The MMDA's report indicated that the waste was picked up from 11 cities within the National Capital Region by its Metro Parkway Clearing Group (MPCG) - Special Ornamental Plants Development Management Unit.

Malabon had the highest amount of trash collected with 1.48 tons, followed by Manila with 0.97 tons and Parañaque City with 0.72 tons.

The report showed there was no garbage collection in the cities of Las Piñas, Makati, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pasay, and Pateros.

Before the elections, the MMDA ramped up its 'Oplan Baklas' campaign to remove unlawful election materials in the NCR, collecting nearly 33 tons from February 1 to April 28.

The EcoWaste Coalition urged candidates to comply with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act and refrain from littering during their final campaign events on May 10.
