Military, police prep for May elections in Sulu, Tawi-Tawi

The military's Western Mindanao Command and the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) are preparing for the May 2025 elections in Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Army Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, commander of the Western Mindanao Command, stated that military units in both provinces have coordinated security plans to ensure peaceful voting.

Officials from the Army's 11th Infantry Division in Sulu and the Navy's 2nd Marine Brigade in Tawi-Tawi are working with PRO-BAR to enforce election security measures.

Nafarrete expressed optimism for peaceful elections in Sulu, citing recent progress in resolving clan conflicts and reducing terrorist presence.

Security conferences were held on April 24 and 23 to discuss detailed election security plans involving military units, the police, and local government officials.
