Metro Manila shifts to GCQ June 1

Metro Manila will shift to a general community quarantine (GCQ) on June 1, easing restrictions despite warnings from experts.

Baguio City is also ready to transition to MGCQ by June 1, as it was not included in the list of areas under GCQ.

Senator Risa Hontiveros warned that shifting Metro Manila to GCQ may lead to a new wave of COVID-19 transmission due to the highest number of recorded cases on May 28.

The DOH attributed the spike in cases to the rollout of the faster verification system, and expects numbers to continue rising as more tests are conducted.
