DA assures enough food supply during Metro Manila quarantine

The Department of Agriculture assured Metro Manila residents on Friday that there is enough food supply during the community quarantine due to the coronavirus.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said the current rice inventory held by NFA warehouses nationwide can last for at least 80 days and will be further augmented by the ongoing harvest, providing additional stock good for another two to three months.

Dar also advised residents not to panic buy and to only purchase their daily or weekly food requirements.

He added that the lockdown is an opportune time for residents to consider gardening or aquaculture in their backyards, verandas, rooftops, or designated areas within their barangays, schools, or communities.
