Meralco restores power to most affected by Kristine, 6K households still without electricity

Meralco has restored electricity to most customers affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, with around 6,000 households still without power as of Sunday morning.

This number represents a significant decrease from the previously recorded 535,000 customers affected last Thursday.

The majority of the remaining affected areas are in parts of Cavite and Laguna, with Meralco crews working to restore service as quickly as possible.

Meralco Vice President Joe Zaldarriaga stated that full restoration is expected within the day.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Leon has entered the Philippine area of responsibility, potentially affecting extreme northern Luzon with its outer rainbands.

Zaldarriaga noted that Meralco is staying vigilant as Leon continues to move westward over the Philippine Sea.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 158 areas declaring a state of calamity, with the latest Office of Civil Defense report indicating 85 deaths due to Kristine.
