Marcos seeks explanations from contractors over failed flood control projects in Calumpit, Bulacan

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. is seeking explanations from St. Timothy Construction Corporation and Wawao Builders regarding failed flood control projects in Calumpit, Bulacan.

During his site inspection of the Rehabilitation of the River Protection Structure and Flood Mitigation Structure in Barangay Frances, Marcos expressed frustration over substandard work and false claims of completion, calling them 'ghost projects' due to their incomplete state.

Inspectors confirmed thin and uneven cement application on the structures, with some parts remaining unfinished since February 2023. Desiltation, a part of the contract, was also not completed as claimed.

Marcos emphasized that contractors must visit sites and understand their impact on local residents, highlighting Wawao Builders' ranking as the 12th contractor with the most flood control projects worth P4.2 billion in Bulacan since July 2022.

The President pledged to take decisive action against individuals involved in substandard work, noting that both contractors reported their projects as completed despite signs of deterioration and unfulfilled desiltation works.

Marcos disclosed that Bulacan province has 668 flood control projects worth about PHP6.5 billion and encouraged public reporting through sumbongsapangulo.ph for any irregularities.
