Marcos recognizes PNP chief as boxing champ in SONA

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. highlighted boxing heroes and included Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III in his fourth State of the Nation Address.

Marcos praised the efforts of the Philippine Sports Commission and Pagcor to support athletes, mentioning champions like Manny Pacquiao and Hidilyn Diaz.

Torre was recognized as a new champion after winning a charity boxing bout against acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, who did not show up for the match.

The President's inclusion of Torre in his speech drew laughter and cheers from the audience, with Marcos joking that Torre was surprised by the recognition.

The event raised over P300,000 from entrance fees alone, with additional donations totaling more than P16 million to help Filipinos affected by recent weather disturbances.
