Marcos urges fast-tracking disaster mitigation projects in Cagayan Valley

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. urged government agencies and local authorities to fast-track disaster mitigation projects in Cagayan Valley during a speech in Ilagan City, Isabela on Friday.

Marcos emphasized the need for immediate action on flood control structures, irrigation systems, and rehabilitation initiatives for major river basins and dams, citing recent typhoons that hit the province.

The ongoing construction of the Tumauini River Multipurpose Project along the Pinacanauan de Tumauini River is expected to irrigate 8,200 hectares of agricultural land and benefit around 5,860 farmers.

Government agencies are reviewing master plans for key river basins like the Cagayan River Basin to enhance flood mitigation measures, with studies currently ongoing.

Work on the Magat Dam rehabilitation and the Balasig Small Reservoir Irrigation Project is underway to provide reliable irrigation water and improve flood control.

The Tuguegarao Circumferential Dike Road Project aims to protect nearby communities by stabilizing riverbank soil and increasing drainage capacity, with construction already completed in some areas.
