Marcos questions Tarlac mayor's background during Senate hearing

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. questioned the background of Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo on Thursday, stating she requires investigation.

Marcos emphasized during a Senate hearing that he knows most Tarlac politicians but none know Guo, raising doubts about her origins and citizenship.

Guo's case has sparked concerns over the growing Chinese presence in the country due to the influx of foreign nationals into the Philippines.

The Office of the Solicitor General is conducting a probe into Guo’s background, with Marcos promising better monitoring procedures to prevent incidents involving foreigners posing as Filipinos.

On Saturday, during an ambush media interview in Makati, Marcos stated that no conclusions have been reached yet and that both executive and legislative investigations are ongoing.

Senator Risa Hontiveros has alleged that Guo could be a Chinese asset sent to infiltrate the Philippine government.
