Marcos launches 50% fare discount for seniors and PWDs on MRT-LRT

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. launched a 50% fare discount for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 on Wednesday, July 16.

The initiative aims to support vulnerable sectors with limited income and was announced at the MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis southbound station as part of the observance of the 7th National Disability Week from July 17 to 23.

Approximately 13 million seniors and seven million PWDs will benefit from this discount, which increases the statutory fare discount of 20% to 50%. The program follows a similar discount for students introduced in June.

Marcos emphasized that the fare subsidy is part of broader efforts to promote inclusive public services.

The government also announced the operational readiness of Dalian trains purchased in 2014, which had remained unused due to compatibility issues with MRT-3 lines. These trains are expected to reduce waiting times from four minutes to two and a half minutes.
