Free rides for PWDs on LRT-2, MRT-3 starting July 17

Starting July 17, both the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will offer free rides to all persons with disabilities as part of National Disability Rights Week.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), and MRT-3 management, extending free rides until July 23 during peak hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Free rides will be available for PWDs who present their PWD IDs, while outside these hours, passengers can get a 50 percent fare discount as per President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.’s directive.

President Marcos announced that approximately 13 million senior citizens and 7 million persons with disabilities will benefit from the discounted rides.

The NCDA emphasizes the importance of infrastructure accessibility and is working to enforce standards for dedicated spaces, ramps, priority seats, and elevators designed for PWDs.
