Marcos inspects river proj., tasks DPWH on watershed structs

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project site in Marikina on Monday to inspect progress and tasked DPWH to explore constructing additional containment structures for watersheds in Sierra Madre.

During his visit, Marcos reviewed maps and blueprints with officials from various agencies but did not give media interviews; he later instructed the DPWH to conduct feasibility studies for potential watershed projects.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated that some facilities are still under construction, including the Manggahan Control Gate Structure which is expected to be completed by 2028 or 2029 and may seek funding from Japan.

Mayor Maan Teodoro of Marikina City noted potential delays in completing the project due to variations and lack of local government funding for counterpart contributions.

Phase IV aims to improve flood-mitigation measures in Marikina and other parts of Metro Manila, protecting communities from river overflow and supporting urban development.
