Marcos: Duterte's impeachment will carry over to next Congress

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated on Tuesday that Sara Duterte's impeachment trial will surely cross into the 20th Congress.

Marcos emphasized that even if the trial starts now, it cannot be completed before the new senators take office due to the limited time remaining in the current session.

The president maintained that he would not intervene and left the decision on how to proceed with the impeachment to the incoming Senate members once they are sworn in.

Senate President Francis Escudero took his oath as presiding officer of the Senate's impeachment court on Monday night, while the Senate referred the case to its Committee on Rules.

Senators are scheduled to take their oaths as judges in the impeachment court at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, with the trial set to begin after that and expected to continue into the next Congress.
