Marcial loses at Paris Olympics, considers pro boxing return

Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial was eliminated from the Paris Olympics without securing a medal after losing via unanimous decision to Uzbekistan's Turabek Khabibullaev in the round-of-16 of the men's 80kg division on Wednesday, July 31 (Manila time).

Marcial expressed deep sorrow and frustration over his loss, acknowledging an injury sustained two weeks prior that affected his training and mental strength.

After his defeat, Marcial met with boxing sensation Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin who offered words of encouragement and advice.

Marcial, who holds an undefeated professional record after five major fights, is now considering returning to professional boxing following Golovkin's suggestion.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino assured that the Philippines' medal campaign remains on track despite Marcial's loss, noting that Marcial was fighting above his usual weight, making it challenging against taller opponents.
