Manila declares half-day classes and work on Holy Wednesday

Manila City has declared half-day classes in public and private schools and half-day work for government employees on Holy Wednesday, March 27.

In a statement posted Tuesday, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuña signed Executive Order No. 8, Series of 2024, to allow residents ample time to observe the Semana Santa traditions.

Classes will be suspended from noon onwards to enable families to gather for special meals, attend Easter vigils and masses, and renew their faith.

Government work in Manila, except for emergency services, is also suspended during this period.

Private offices have the discretion to decide whether to suspend afternoon work or not.

The order applies to both face-to-face and online classes and work in city government offices.

Emergency response services and basic health services will remain operational.
