Makati distributes P1B in cash aid to residents

Makati City has distributed over PHP1 billion in financial assistance to its residents affected by the coronavirus pandemic via electronic money transfer.

Mayor Abby Binay announced that under the PHP2.7-billion Makatizen Economic Relief Program (MERP), residents aged 18 and above will receive PHP5,000 each through GCash.

The distribution surpassed the PHP1 billion mark just two weeks after the program's launch, with about 207,162 beneficiaries receiving assistance.

Binay highlighted that some recipients used the cash aid to start or expand home businesses, aiming for long-term livelihood stability.
