Makati requires face masks in public places

Makati City has passed an ordinance requiring residents to wear face masks or protective gear while outdoors during a public health emergency.

The city council enacted City Ordinance No. 2020-089, which mandates the use of various types of protective equipment such as face shields, ear-loop masks, cloth masks, handkerchiefs, scarves, and DIY masks.

First-time offenders will be fined P1,000; second offenses carry a fine of P3,000; and third or repeated violations result in a fine of up to P5,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months.
