Catholic group files third impeachment complaint against VP Sara Duterte

On Thursday, December 19, Catholic priests along with religious groups and lawyers filed a third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The petition accuses Duterte of betrayal of public trust, graft, and plunder over alleged misuse of at least P612 million in confidential funds from 2022 to 2023.

Recently, OVP special disbursing officer Gina Acosta admitted releasing P125 million in confidential funds to Col. Raymund Dante Lachica under Duterte's direct orders.

The complainants also pointed out that the acknowledgment receipts submitted to justify the use of confidential funds were 'fabricated', with names appearing fictitious and some signatories having no official records.

Lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc have called on the House of Representatives to act on the impeachment complaints against Duterte, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding CF expenditures.

With the filing coming just before Congress' Christmas break, deliberations on the impeachment complaint will resume after January 12.
