Duterte to join VP Sara's legal team for impeachment

Vice President Sara Duterte said Wednesday that her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, will join her legal team facing the three impeachment complaints pending in the House of Representatives.

During a Christmas Eve dinner, former President Duterte expressed his willingness to serve as one of her lawyers without offering financial support, noting he is preparing documents with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to sign as a lawyer of good standing.

Sara noted they are awaiting formal articles of impeachment from the House and have assigned lawyers for each case, expressing confidence in their adherence to the law.

The vice president stated that she did not violate any laws and was ready to face her cases when they are formally filed.

In less than a year since their fallout with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Duterte family has faced numerous controversies and investigations, including the impeachment complaints over the alleged misuse of P612 million confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President.

Former senator Leila De Lima and progressive groups have already filed the first two impeachment complaints against Sara Duterte, citing betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
