Duque: PH areas under GCQ thru Dec to avoid holiday surge

Health Secretary Duque said Metro Manila and other areas will remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) through December to prevent a potential surge in COVID-19 cases during the holiday season.

Duque noted that increased social gatherings could lead to higher transmission rates, emphasizing the need for caution.

President Duterte announced on Monday that Metro Manila, Davao City, and six other areas will remain under GCQ until December 31st, while the rest of the country will be under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

OCTA Research recommended maintaining GCQ in Metro Manila through December to ensure a projected decrease in cases by early 2021.

Experts warned that easing restrictions prematurely could delay improvements and mislead public perception about safety.
