Magsayo wins by unanimous decision over Mata

Former featherweight champion Mark Magsayo won by unanimous decision against Mexico's Jorge Mata on Saturday (Sunday Manila time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Magsayo secured the World Boxing Council Continental Americas super featherweight title with scorecards of 100-90, 100-90, and 98-92, narrowly missing a shutout victory.

Despite failing to secure a knockout, Magsayo dominated throughout the bout, outworking Mata in both punches and strategy.

In the fourth round, Magsayo landed powerful hooks and uppercuts that left Mata bloodied but still standing, while he slowed down slightly in the sixth round before regaining control.

Magsayo's performance impressed Manny Pacquiao’s team and could position him as a mandatory challenger for a two-division world title this year.
