Magnitude 5.9 quake off Davao Occidental, followed by magnitude 4.8

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Davao Occidental on Saturday morning at 5:29 a.m., followed by another tremor of magnitude 4.8 at 6:55 a.m.

The epicenter of the first quake was located approximately 406 kilometers south-southeast of Balut Island, with a depth of 115 kilometers; the second quake occurred 386 kilometers southeast of Balut Island and had a depth of 60 kilometers.

PHIVOLCS reported that Intensity III was recorded in Santo Niño, South Cotabato, while Intensity II was noted in Malungon, Sarangani and City of Koronadal, T'Boli, and Tupi, South Cotabato for the first earthquake.

Intensity I readings were observed in several municipalities and cities including Alabel, Kiamba, Glan in Sarangani, and General Santos City for the initial tremor.

No damage or aftershocks are expected from both earthquakes according to PHIVOLCS.
