Philippine hospitals near full capacity for COVID-19 cases

The East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City reports that its COVID-19 beds and ICU are 80% to 90% occupied, with a positivity rate of 10% to 11%, indicating rapid spread in the community.

Patients at the emergency room may have to wait one to two days before getting a regular room, though they receive appropriate treatment at the emergency level.

The Lung Center of the Philippines, a COVID-19 referral hospital, is also nearing full capacity with its emergency room currently 125% occupied and 80 to 90 out of 110 dedicated beds filled.

Dr. Randy Castillo, chief of the Emergency Room and COVID-19 Triage Task Force at the Lung Center, described this situation as a 'surge' compared to previous months when occupancy was around 40% to 50%. He noted that more patients are seeking medical consultation in the emergency room and triage area.
