LTO issues show cause orders to 19 bike owners for illegal racing

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued show cause orders to the owners of 19 motorcycles involved in illegal racing on a bypass road in San Rafael, Bulacan.

Owners are required to appear at the LTO's central office in Quezon City on August 27 and submit written comments or explanations; failure to comply will result in waiver of their rights to be heard.

The LTO plans to file charges for various violations including duty to have a license, reckless driving, improper helmet use, unlicensed operation, and lack of license plates.

Twelve people were arrested, and 12 minors aged seven to 16 were held after police operations on August 17, during which one rider hit a minor while fleeing from authorities.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza expressed concern over the involvement of young riders in dangerous exhibitions without proper safety measures or licenses.
